Our 7th Anniversary And “The Dark Knight” Review

August 3, 2008 · 3 Comments

This evening husband and I celebrated our 7th anniversary by going to Rodizio Grill and catching a movie. Grandparent’s B were kind enough to babysit the two girls so that we could spend this evening like two young love birds. I am amazed that we are still together after having gone through so much. The hardest thing for us was (and still is but has gotten so much better) managing our finances. We’ve gone through so many ups and down and through it all, I’ll have to admit, husband never gave up. He loved me and the girls through it all. He works so hard at everything: school, work, being a parent, and a husband. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to be married to such a wonderful husband who will do whatever it takes to keeps us safe, healthy, and happy. Although the road ahead will still have bumps, I could not ask for anything more than the life I have now.

Here we are 7 years ago at the Renaissance Festival in Larkspur, CO.

This evening at Rodizio Grill, I didn’t eat as much as I had thought I would. There was food, mostly meat coming every 3 to 5 minutes and I just couldn’t eat fast enough. I was also getting way stuffed so I wasn’t able to finish everything on my plate even though they came in small portions. We also had red wine with our meal which probably added to my not-eating-much appetite. Husband really enjoyed everything. I think this is one of his favorite restaurant.

Description of photos: As we walked through the door, this neon sign stood before us in welcome to an enjoyable evening! :: View from the waiting room :: Appetizer – Grilled bananas. I’ve never had anything like this before but it was good :: Husband’s salad :: My salad :: Guarana drink :: Turkey wrapped in bacon :: Grilled pineapple – this was so good! :: Grilled steak :: Grilled tomato with cheese :: Steak and garlic – the garlic made this meat spicy :: Lamb – not my thing. I couldn’t stand the smell. It was good but just not my flavor :: Grilled Talipa with red bell pepper – loved it! Although, I think they put just a bit too much salt :: Ham :: The two of us.

After dinner, we headed to the Pavilions to catch the new Batman flick, “The Dark Knight”. I think I might be the only person to say this but it was not what I had expected in a comic book movie. The actors were fabulous in their parts but this flick was too violent as a PG-13. There were too many people killed and reminded me of terrorists and mafia movies. I’m not a fan of either of the two. I’ve enjoyed previous Batman movies (all of them I might add) but this one was a complete letdown. I felt like the movie would have still been pretty good without Batman. It would have been a sweet terrorist/mafia movie (and I definitely would have avoided it). I left the theater after the judge got blown up in her car. This was simply not like a Batman movie. I expected one of the Joker’s crew to mess up with the timing of the bomb or something and the Joker getting pissed and captures the judge and hides her. Also, I expected a grand entrance into the ball thrown by Bruce Wayne. I see him as a loud guy making a memorable statement. It was simply too serious to be considered a comic book style movie.

BTW, I might add that all the trailers before this movie were all about violence. There was a little kid about 5 years old in the theater! Yeah, another reason why I left. I couldn’t stand the thought of these ideas and images inside a little kid’s mind. This movie should have been rated R.

MAC Purchases And Last Week

August 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Yesterday, I went to the MAC store at the Cherry Creek mall to get a couple of gift items (at full price). Then today, I decided to go to the Castle Rock outlets to check out the Cosmetic Company Store. To my surprise, because I was not expecting to see MAC, I nearly turned into a child in a candy store! I kept going round and round the small MAC kiosk with all the lipsticks and eyeshadows undecided of what I wanted to purchase. I actually wanted everything but of course, I just could not see myself wearing everything since some colors would definitely not work on me. Anyway, I ended up buying the following items and plan to return with more $$ for some other things such as the Bobbi Brown line, Origins, Clinique and Prescriptives! This store is definitely a candy store for make-up fanatics such as I! The best part is the price. :-)

MAC Pro Longwear Lipcolor in Stuck On You. Original price $20. I got it for $14.

MAC Studio Finish Pressed Powder in NC20. Original price $21. I got it for $13.

On to other things…

:: Thursday, went to the Law of Attraction seminar facilitated by Matt Boggs. It reminded me that perseverance, patients, and hard work will lead me to success. I also met a couple who inspired me in my goals.
:: Friday, because my work met our budget, we celebrated by going to McCormick & Schmik’s. It was a nice and relaxed atmosphere. I enjoyed all the seafood and the wine.
:: Yesterday, I went over to Sendie’s house for her mother’s birthday surprise party (that’s who the MAC gifts were for) as well as Sendie’s and her husband’s anniversary.
:: Last weekend, I took some photos of my two girls in Hmong clothes. I’ve been wanting to take some professional ones especially that we are in need of a new family photo. My weekends have just been extremley busy.

Kida in her Hmong outfit.

Kylie in her outfit.

Another Student Death

August 1, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I found out yesterday that a graduate student passed. My boss went to his funeral. It is unsure how he died but suicide and tumor are pretty close up there.

I remember this student. The history was that when he was in middle school, he got into a bike accident with a car and was in a coma for days. After that he was just not the same person anymore. He came into the school for the graduate program and graduated two years later. He then returned as an alumni for credits to sit for the CPA exam. I am not sure when he started taking classes again because I have since moved into a different position and don’t work with graduate or graduate alums anymore. My guess is that he was about two to three courses into his CPA program. I believe that he is in a much better and happier place.
